Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS)

The Devon WeBS Report 2016-17 has now been distributed to counters, but if anyone else would like a copy, please email me on peter.p.j.reay@btinternet.com to request a pdf. The report, which used to be published in the Devon Bird Report, covers the WeBS year from July 2016 to June 2017.
Some recent additions to the team are: Ken Ebsworthy (Clovelly Fishing Lakes and Darracott, Gammaton, Jennetts and Melbury reservoirs in the Torridge district; Chris Ellis (Portworthy Mica Dam); Adam and Marc Lake (Basin to Greenway section of the Grand Western Canal); and Emma Magee (now co-ordinating the Dart Estuary counts, and helping with the report). Ray Jones and Sara McMahon have recently stepped down after many years of WeBS counting, and are warmly thanked for their contributions. Eileen Marsh, a former Chair of Devon Birds who died earlier this month, was WeBS counter for Rackerhayes Lakes from 2002 until 2016. She submitted her last count in December 2016 (promptly as usual!), but still visited Rackerhayes after that, accompanying her daughter Sara D’ Agorne, who took over as the counter there in 2017.
Most Devon sites are now covered, but if anyone is interested in becoming a counter please get in touch directly or via www.bto.org/webs where more information on the survey can be found.
